The canola industry welcomed this week’s announcement of a modernized Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) that will mean an immediate 40% reduction of tariffs on Canadian canola oil. Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement Tuesday that the negotiations toward the expanded and modernized CIFTA have concluded, expanding market access opportunities for agricultural exports.

Canola industry launches #CanolaCountry campaign to support trade and market access
Today, the Canola Council of Canada (CCC) launched the #CanolaCountry campaign to showcase the impact of canola across Canada and benefits of international trade. Canadians working in the canola industry, including seed developers, growers, processors, exporters and beyond, are joining in this effort to share the personal and community impact of canola, benefits of increased market access and positive impact that an ambitious Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would have on Canola Country.

The research team of Dr. Glen Broderick at Broderick Nutrition and Research, Dr. Antonio Faciola at the University of Nevada and Dr. Louis Armentano of the University of Wisconsin demonstrated that canola meal can replace soybean meal and improve the productivity of dairy cows. This research has recently been published in the Journal of Dairy Science.
