Many parts of the Prairies are still under a layer of snow this week. Southern Alberta is one exception. Seeding in mid April in Southern Alberta increases the chance of a killing frost on seedlings but also reduces the chance of heat stress in summer during the sensitive canola stages of bud through flower. When making the early seeding decision, growers always weigh one risk against the other.
