Issues of the week

Canola fields are being assessed for sclerotinia stem rot risk, especially with decent moisture, dense canopies and good yield potential. We have tips this week on how to assess the risk in each field. Tomorrow’s webinar with Kelly Turkington will help answer more of your questions.

Growers are reminded to include lygus bugs in their insect scouting. Cabbage seedpod weevils have also arrived in canola fields in southern Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan.

If canola fields have grown past their herbicide control windows, that second application may not be needed. But if weeds are ahead of the crop and in big numbers, the crop damage caused by a second application may be less than the yield loss weeds may cause.
