-The researchers determined cows receiving canola meal in early lactation produce more milk and have superior dry matter intakes.
-Many studies conducted over the last 10 years show that canola meal substituted for other protein sources improves milk production and dry matter intake.
-This trial was, however, one of the few reporting results for early lactation.
-The researchers compared their findings to those in other trials.
-They suspect major differences in amino acid utilization and gene expression when cow receive canola meal compared to when they receive soybean meal, and are planning for more in-depth analyses to determine the underlying reasons for the differing responses between these two proteins.
