The purpose of this research was to refine and improve on an earlier yield loss model by using modern hybrid cultivars.

Despite COVID-19, field experiments were conducted at two sites. Two canola hybrids, rated as moderately resistant to blackleg, were seeded in the field. The stem cross-sections were rated for blackleg disease severity and the plants were harvested to collect the yield data.

Outcomes

This project builds on previous work, by modelling yield losses from blackleg in modern canola hybrids, making the model more accurate and more relevant to producers and agronomists. The blackleg yield loss calculator can be found at the Canola Calculator homepage.
