The Canola Council of Canada’s Ultimate Canola Challenge (UCC) is still underway, and while we await the yield results, here is a quick summary of the program this season.
This year, the UCC is helping growers to determine how increasing nitrogen rates affect yield and economics of their canola crop. Growers have plots with their base rate of nitrogen, and treatment plots with a 25% increase in nitrogen above the base rate, and replicated the plots four times.
The sites: There are several canola growers in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta who are testing out this protocol. There are a few challenges in some of the sites, but most of them are looking quite good and they will probably be swathed in the next week or two.
Here are a few photos from the sites:
UCC results will be posted on the UCC webpage once finalized. In the meantime, check out the UCC on twitter at #canolaUCC and #uccmb16 and on Instagram at ultimate_canola_challenge
