Lindane is an insecticide that was used in various seed treatments with the brand names Cloak, Vitavax RS, Foundation, Premiere, IPC Benolin-R Insecticide-fungicide Dust. Lindane is no longer registered for canola in Canada

Market Issues
|
United States: lindane is not approved for canola and no tolerance has been set.
The US is the number one oil and meal market for Canadian canola worth over $600 million per year. Lindane for canola was voluntarily removed by the manufacturers because it is not approved in the U.S. and could become a trade irritant.

Recommendation
to Growers
|
Do not treat or plant seed with lindane seed treatments.
Do not deliver any canola produced from seed treated with lindane to any elevator of crushing plant.
For treated seed: Contact provincial authorities or municipal landfill for disposal.
