Canola producers can lose up to five bushels per acre if their combine isn’t adjusted properly for their specific crop and field conditions.
That’s why the Canola Council of Canada (CCC) is organizing “Picking up Profit”, a combine performance clinic January 11, 2010. The clinic will address the issue of harvest loss and provide expert advice on how growers can minimize that loss.
At the all-day event, leading manufacturers will offer expert advice as they walk through the critical adjustments for their combine models. Farmers will earn what harvest loss actually means in terms of performance, productivity and operating economics.
The event will include several guest speakers with extensive knowledge and experience of harvesting techniques and skill development. Les Hill, Manager of Business Development/Technical Services at the Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute will speak about harvest yield loss. Chris Holzapfel of the Indian Head Agriculture Research Foundation will discuss straight combining and pod sealants.
Concurrent workshops will take place once in the morning and then repeated again in the afternoon. The technical workshops will involve many of the top combine manufacturers, including John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Lexion (Cat), and Massey Ferguson.
The clinic will be hosted at Saskatoon Prairieland Park in Saskatoon from 8:30 am to 4:00 p.m. The $50 registration fee also includes lunch and a one-day admission to the Western Canadian Crop Production Show.
Farmers can register at www.canolacouncil.org or by contacting Gail Hoskins at the CCC at (204) 982-2102.
