Introduction
This technical guide on the use of canola meal in animal feeds is the latest in a series of canola meal publications produced by the Canola Council of Canada. Every three or four years, the guide is updated to incorporate new research information about canola meal and developments in feed technology. The four years since the previous edition has seen a considerable amount of new research on feeding canola meal from around the world, especially from Canada, Europe and Asia. New information and changes in this latest version of the guide include:
- information on canola meal production and trade;
- information on canola meal quality trading specifications;
- processing factors that influence canola meal quality, especially amino acid bio-availability;
- more extensive canola meal nutrient composition information;
- a comparison of the nutritional profile of Canadian canola meal to canola meal from other origins and to rapeseed meal;
- limited information on feeding canola seed and canola oil;
- feeding recommendations for minor species including fish;
- an evaluation of the relative economic value of canola meal.
