Record Canola Acres Expected in 2010
Statistics
Canada reported that prairie farmers are expected to beat last year’s record
number of planted canola acres in 2010. Early data shows that canola will be
planted on about 16.8 million acres, almost five percent more than last year.
In Saskatchewan, the projected acreage increase is close to nine percent.
Increasing demand for healthy cooking oil has helped canola become Canada’s
second largest field crop by acres planted.

CanolaInfo Blogs its Way to the Top
CanolaInfoCooks.org,
a new blog on the cookbook "The Heart-Smart Diabetes Kitchen: Fresh, Fast,
and Flavorful Recipes Made with Canola Oil," is making a splash in the
blogosphere. Several other bloggers are giving away a copy of the cookbook to
help promote CanolaInfoCooks.org and have directed their readers to the site
for a total of more than 1.5 million online media impressions to date. One blog
even noted canola oil’s qualified health claim from the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration and linked to both CanolaInfo.org and HeartSmartDiabetes.org so
her readers could get more information.

Anti-Inflammatory Foods Help Fight Allergy

such as sniffles and congestion, by reducing the body’s inflammatory response
to histamine. Consuming oils high in healthy omega-3 and monounsaturated fats,
such as canola oil, and avoiding saturated and trans fats can help fight inflammation.

Roll Over, Saturated Fat
Though
cinnamon rolls are always an indulgence, they can be healthier when made with a
little canola oil. This blogger notes that the dough for her Cinnamon Sticky
Biscuits is made with canola oil and milk instead of butter, using only ¼ cup
of healthy fat instead of the entire cup of high-saturated fat butter called
for in most cinnamon roll recipes – without sacrificing taste, of course. Try
these "healthified" rolls for Mother’s Day breakfast.
