Health Blogger Cites Canola Oil’s FDA Claim
A recent post on Healthkicker.com, "Foods for a Healthy Cardiovascular System," cited canola oil first and referenced its qualified health claim that replacing saturated fat with canola oil may reduce the risk of heart disease. The article points out that canola oil has the least saturated fat of all common cooking oils and recommends that readers use it in place of other oils.

Two Hundred Million Kilograms of Bad Fats Eliminated from North American Diet
Dow AgroSciences announced that in the last three years, its Omega-9 Canola and Sunflower Oils, made from NEXERA™ seeds, have replaced more than 150 million kilograms of trans fat and 60 million kilograms of saturated fat in North American food service. The company plans to increase its production of Omega-9 Oils to 1.13 billion kilograms by 2012.

"You" Docs Recommend Canola Oil to Help Lower Cholesterol
Drs. Mike Roizen and Mehmet Oz, authors of the best-selling "You" series of health books, advocate canola oil as one of the best foods to keep cholesterol in check. Healthy fats, like those found in canola oil, should make up 25 percent of your daily calories according to the celebrity docs.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Not Linked to Prostate Cancer
A May supplement of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition includes a study by U.C. San Francisco and the San Francisco VA Hospital that disproves an epidemiological association between omega-3s and increased risk of prostate cancer. Scientists found no links between the two. Separate clinical studies show that omega-3s, including the those found in canola oil, may help protect the heart.

Viterra Brings Bjornson Back to Canola Industry
Tyler Bjornson, once vice president of corporate affairs for the Canola Council of Canada, will take over as Viterra’s manager of government and commercial relations as of June 29. He most recently served as chief of staff for Natural Resources Canada.
