Agriculture Minister Says Hola, Canola!
The Canola Council
of Canada and Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz traveled to Mexico City Jan. 19
to raise awareness of canola oil’s health benefits for Mexican consumers. With
the help of celebrity chef Eduardo Osuna, Minister Ritz and CCC President JoAnne
Buth spread the word that canola oil’s low saturated fat content may help
reduce the risk of heart disease. In a survey of 600 Mexican consumers, 47
percent said they would be willing to switch to canola oil after they learned
of its health benefits.

fats.

"Broasting" About Canola Oil
Quinney’s
Southern Soul Food of Lansing, Mich., cooks its down-home specialties in canola
oil because it’s lower in saturated fat than peanut oil, often favored for
frying and other high-heat applications in restaurants. They use a unique
method called "broasting," which deep fries and pressure cooks food
at the same time.
