Canadian Canola Exports Rising
Canola exports increased 48 percent this month thanks in large
part to food service demand for zero
trans, lower saturated fat oils. Canola Council of Canada President
JoAnne Buth attributed the increase to large chains like McDonald’s that are
"moving away from trans fat" and switching to canola oil or canola
oil blends.

Take Care of "You" with More
Omega-3s
Drs.
Mehmet Oz and Michael Roizen, otherwise known as the "You" book
authors, recommended canola oil for its favorable omega-3 to omega-6 ratio in
the Washington Examiner.
They note that most vegetable oils, especially those like soybean oil that are
common in processed foods, offer too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 fat.

Canola Oil is a Doggone Good Idea
Turns
out that our puppy pals can benefit from healthy canola oil as well. The
gingerbread treats at Beardog Café in Edmonton, A.B., made with such
"people" ingredients as canola oil, rye flour, molasses and cinnamon,
are safe for dogs with allergies and digestive problems. They taste great, too
– dogs reportedly show off their best tricks for a bite – so if the rest of the
family gets jealous, try CanolaInfo’s festive Spiced
Apple Ginger Cake.

"The Heart-Smart Diabetes Kitchen"
in Houston Chronicle
A
diabetes cookbook round-up for the holidays in the Houston Chronicle featured "The
Heart-Smart Diabetes Cookbook: Fresh, Fast, and Flavorful Recipes Made with
Canola Oil" from the American Diabetes Association and CanolaInfo. Noting
that all the recipes use canola oil, the summary played up the cookbook’s focus
on comfort foods such as French toast, Mexican casserole and homemade soups and
said it’s "dedicated to recipes to help diabetics feel like they’re not
giving up favorite foods."
